1) AHHH SO MUCH TO DO FOR WORK THIS MORNING BUT I DON'T WANNA WORK! I wanna write long emails to [livejournal.com profile] narniadear and IM [livejournal.com profile] mackillian like mad and go out for breakfast and take a shower and camp FFXIAH and be incredibly silly and giggly. But nooooo I have to work. How unfair is that?

2) Hi! :D
xnera: Icon of Lucius Malfoy leaving the Death Eaters to perform karaoke (TIN ROOF!!! RUSTED!!!)
1) Let's say I've averaged four showers a week since I moved in here 9.75 years ago. 4 x 52 x 9.75 = 2,028 showers. That's a lot of showering!

2) When I have some money, I need to buy more of Villainess' Jai Mahal. Especially the Whipped! Currently using Paradise Misplaced, which is nice, but not OMG! like Jai Mahal is.

3) Though my favorite Villainess Whipped! scent is Smashing, but that's seasonal.

4) I need to check if my laundry detergent contains fabric softener. I've read that it's bad for cloth pads because it makes them less absorbent. And yeah, I feel like mine aren't as absorbent as they used to be. -.- I hope I haven't ruined them because I love mine. Especially my Hello Kitty! ones.

5) I hate my bed. It only has three slats to support the box spring and mattress, and they aren't nailed/bolted down, probably to allow the wood to expand/contract. I need to turn over a few times before I can settle down into sleep, and given that I am currently 300 pounds of awesome, that means I exert enough forces that the slats easily get jarred lose and a corner of the bed will suddenly drop. >_< Which is why I usually give up and go back to sleeping on the couch.

6) I cannot wait until I can afford the bed I really want to get that I've been drooling over for years now.

7) I can't decide what to do with my Dreamwidth account. I've fallen in love with the place, but I still love LiveJournal a lot. I know a lot of folks are feeling like Dreamwidth is a fresh start or feel more comfortable there and thus are posting most personal stuff there, but... well, I've been using my LiveJournal as an extension of therapy for years now, and so this is my Safe Place. I could cross-post, but I fear that might be annoying to people who follow me both places.

8) And if I do cross-post, do I allow comments both places or just on Dreamwidth? They both seem like they'd be annoying for others, for different reasons, and you know how much I hate to annoy/upset people. So, *flails*.

9) I still owe you a status update for Mission 101. At the very least I need to post a list of books I've read before I've forgotten them.

10) God, showers feel so fantastic. Why have I started taking them less?

11) I need to pay $foo and $bar. And find the money for $bat, which is something that I wanted to do waaaaay too long ago and is nipping at me like a yappy little dog.

12) No offense to yappy little dogs meant. I actually prefer smaller dogs.

13) My Paid Account here has expired. >_< I had to turn off automatic payments 'cause I lack the money at the moment. *sighs* Will have to ride it out a week or so before I can pay for it again.

14) What am I going to eat for $NextMeal?

15) Will this freaking song PLEASE get out of my head? >_<

16) That dream I had this morning sure was weird.

17) This shower has been going on way too long, hasn't it? I'd better get out.

Visit Woot to get some crap of your own. :D edit: Sold out now.

I will take this kind of crap any day. Much better than the crappy start of the day. TMI )

Oh gods my hands are all shaky from the adrenaline. I'm just so, so excited. :D

And in other daily deals, Dizzy Sheep got me tonight, too. No randomness from them tonight; they're offering Lana Grossa Tender for $0.99 a ball. It retails at $9.95. I've never tried it, but it sounds intriguing. It's 50% Virgin Wool, 40% Microfiber, 10% Acrylic. I love microfiber clothing so I've been interested to see how yarn with microfiber feels.

This was definitely worth staying up for. :D YAY!
xnera: Icon of Kyp/Tohru, hugging. Full of love! (full of love)
There's been a few sites/communities I've really been impressed with lately, and so I wanted to recommend them.

First is Junkfood Science. From their banner: critical examinations of studies and news on food, weight, health and healthcare that mainstream media misses. I love Sandy for pointing out how the OMG! health headlines in the news often aren't true when you examine the data. Her Obesity Paradox series is especially good (latest post is here), as is the bariatric surgery series (example).

I found Junkfood Science via Kate Harding's Shapely Prose. Kate blogs about fat acceptance. She's witty and passionate and just a plain joy to read. If you read anything by her, it should be the but don't you realize fat is unhealthy? article. Also check out the BMI project.

Final recommendation is LiveJournal's own [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina. Good moderation is hard to come by. The mods at VP are some of the best I've seen. They work hard to make VP a safe, empowering space for its users (it's not just females; men are welcome to). Some of the ways they do this are by using icons to signify official mod comments, and having standard phrasing they use when they have to warn a user. Their warnings are just as empowering as the rest of the comm, clearly stating what the user did wrong, providing the user with links to more information, and inviting the user to contact them with any questions. They also have a comm for contacting the mods at [livejournal.com profile] contact_vp. The community itself is WONDERFUL, full of knowledgeable, friendly people who try to provide the most accurate information possible to empower the poster to make the choice that's right for them. I <3 VP.

(back to work I go. *grumbles*)

edit: It's NSFW so I can't find the link right now, but another good thing about [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina is their Everyday Bodies project. They collected photos of various body parts and posted them, to show the diversity that there is out there. It was an awesome project because there's a lot of women who feel insecure about various parts of their bodies, and this project showed them that hey, they are completely normal.

Work has been going fantabulously this week. YAY!

About 30 hours into Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Am pretty certain I am approaching the endgame. Impatiently waiting for $foo to occur. It better be soon!

No KH tonight, though. Instead I was a crocheting fool. Mom's birthday is tomorrow today, and we're going out for pizza Friday evening. So I needed to make her a gift. And as usual left it to the last minute. I love how fast crochet is, because it'll be done tomorrow. Yay!

Falling into bed now. One of these nights I'll get into bed much sooner...
xnera: Black and white icon of Sora from Kingdom Hearts. (sora)
Somewhere between 18 and 20 hours into KH:CoM. I am amazed at how long the battery's lasted. Wikipedia says battery life is about 10 hours, but I am still going off my last charge. O_O I have the backlight at the lowest possible setting (which may actually be off) so I'm betting that's what's doing it. I usually play in a dark room so even with the backlight low the screen is still very, very bright.

I'm on my favorite world right now (actually at the end of it). Yay! Though in this game there's not much that distinguishes one world from another. I'm going to do a review once I finish playing. So far I'm finding the boss fights uneven. Some have been ridiculously easy, and some have been much, much harder. I'm on one of the hard ones at the moment. Annoying.

I still don't feel any urge to be back on IM. Normally I find IM helps me to do things, but right now it feels like it would be distracting. Playing KH feels urgent right now, like I must finish it ASAP because there are other games to be played. Go figure. Anyway, this doesn't mean I'm not lonely. I am, a bit. Been disappointed when i don't get many comments to my entries. *shrugs* Anyway, I'm not staying away because I, like, hate you all or anything, because I totally don't. I just need one of my intensive introverted times.

Life is still good, otherwise. Except for sleeping in too late this morning (oops). But I went out yesterday for an errand, and I'm getting work done right now (well, before and after this entry), and I'm going to the mailbox a little later to mail Netflix DVDs. I'll wash clothes and do just a tiny bit of the dishes. Right now I need some CAFFEEN and breakfast.
xnera: Black and white icon of Sora from Kingdom Hearts. (sora)
Wah! I'm missing a blue trinity! And I think it's from a world I no longer have access to! *pouts*

The Blue Rhapsody really likes dropping Frost Shards. Except I maxed out on frost shards. Which means that as I battle, the ground gets littered with them. It's rather annoying, because I keep thinking it's something new to pick up, and I can't

Did a whole bunch of leveling up in an attempt to get items. Got the items, so tomorrow I'm headed to the Coliseum. And then it'll be some boss fights. And then... end game. I really wouldn't be surprised if I have the game finished by next weekend.

In other news: mom called tonight to chat, so I mentioned that I'm taking another crochet class and we're learning how to do granny squares. This prompted her to demand and afghan. "Okay!" I said hesitantly. I kind of planned to make her one eventually, anyway, but dammit, stop asking me for things, people! I've already got plenty of items in my queue to make. I'm also irked because it feels like I haven't had a chance to work on anything for me in a while. Technically the crochet class project is for me, but it's rather ugly so I think I'd only wear it in desperation. Otherwise I have a scarf I'm knitting for dad (which keeps getting put to the back burner), and I still need to make a scarf for mom. Feels like I'm never going to get back to the shawl I was making. Or any of the other countless things I wanted to make for myself.

On the plus side, mom & dad want to take the awesome backstage tour at Disney World. Yay! I was going to suggest we do a tour, but I wasn't sure they'd be up for the long one (mom has bad feet, and I was afraid it'd be too much for her). But apparently there's a fair bit of riding during the tour, so she said she wants to do it. Exciting! Though I also feel a bit weird about it, too, because I had it earmarked to do when I take my solo trip sometime in the future, which was going to be a trip where I spoiled myself doing everything I wanted to do. I guess I'll just have to do one of the OTHER tours when I eventually take my solo trip!

Other than that, it's been a lazy day. I napped in the afternoon, but I think I really, really needed it. I gave up sleeping on the mattress because it didn't seem to be helping my shoulder or my sleep very much. So back to the couch I went. I actually had a decent night's sleep last night, and the nap this afternoon was good, too. My shoulder's not 100% yet, but it's feeling better than it was.

I think I need a new desk at home. I just realised that my shoulders are being drawn forward when I type, which probably isn't helping the back and shoulders any. I've been wanting a new desk anyway, so I guess this is now a priority for this year. Too many priorities, not enough money. *sighs* Really need to sit down and work on the budget some more.

Heading to bed now. Let's hope this week is better than last. I need a good week.

Too many spreadsheets this morning. I have gone insane.

Seriously. I keep looking at the clock and boggling that it is eleven already. Where did the morning go? Why is my DONE list so short? Oh yeah, that's right--I've been interrupted 35264326 times.

Am now thinking of an old joke.

"Knock, Knock..."
"Who's there?"
"Interrupting cow."
"Interrupting c..."

This post brought to you by the word "weird".

Man, I haven't heard any news about Hiatus in a while. Anybody have any info?

The Internet is one big scenic route. Always fun stuff to see. Witness the following:

  • The icon used on this post. I cracked up when I saw it. Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] phonetic, who didn't make it. If you know who did, PLEASE let me know because I'd like to credit them.

  • Said icon was found via this [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes post, which ponders the expense of living on Coruscant.

  • Raina is apparently an ISFP.

  • Did you know that writers lack the ability to imagine the place settings in their books? I am still boggling at this one.

  • The more geeky folks on my friends list will enjoy this map of the Internet.

Finally: I am, for the most part, no longer part of the Harry Potter fandom. The recent announcement of Book 7's title has dragged me back in a bit, if only to enjoy the variety of amusing posts discussing said title. My favorite alternate titles:

    • Harry Potter and His Legion of Idiotic, Middle-Aged Fans (this one from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] asatomuraki).
    • Harry Potter and the Knights Who Say "Voldemort"
    • Harry Potter Manages to Wrap Up All the Loose Ends to Satisfy His More Nerdly Fans while Silencing His Critics with A Most Poignant and Literate Denouement.
    • Harry Potter and the Debate Over Whether Titles are Spoilers
    • Harry Potter and the Seriously People Life Will Go On Even If Harry Doesn't

I seem to recall doing a list like this for the last book, but I can't find it in my archives. Hrm. Anyway--would love to hear the titles you come up with.

edit: And here's a post discussing the problem with our strategy in Iraq. This is a must read.

Got this from [livejournal.com profile] mhw, and had to pass it on, if only because I know [livejournal.com profile] hillarygayle would be interested:

    "V" goes to Washington, DC.

How cool is that? It'll be interesting to see what happens on the 14th.
xnera: Icon of Haru from Fruits Basket, laughing manically. (HAHAHAHA!)
You know what I like about the Internet? Having easy access to the companies I do business with. If I have a concern or complaint, I can just fire off an email or use their feedback link on their website. No phone calling necessary!

The subject of tonight's email? My tube of toothpaste I just bought had a different cap than advertised AND was missing the little foil cover on the tube. O_O This concerned me enough that I'm not going to use it, and I let the company know about it in case there's a manufacturing issue they need to be aware of. Hopefully I'll get a coupon for free toothpaste! :D

Although I am kind of wondering if this makes me sound like a spoiled American brat who complains until she gets her way. Heh. I don't think I'm like that, really. Yeah, I've complained a few times over the last two years or so, but it's always been when there's something obviously wrong (superstale pie, or ice cream that tasted like it was made with sour milk). Also, toothpaste technically is a drug (it IS! why else would they have Drug Facts on it?) so I think the company if it appears that it was tampered with.

In other news, happiness is receiving discs of Veronica Mars in your mailbox. I do love that show.

To bed now. I'm really not tired yet, but my stomach is complaining about something I ate, so rest would be good.

Oh hey, I haven't used this icon in a while. Why not?
xnera: Icon of Lucius Malfoy leaving the Death Eaters to perform karaoke (TIN ROOF!!! RUSTED!!!)
A plethora of thoughts. (I really like the word "plethora".)

    1. This is cool. I wouldn't mind having one of these myself! :D Seriously thinking of buying it for my nephew Kyle, who will be SEVEN this year. O_O. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage for the link.

    2. Oh, that reminds me: Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians I know! :) I hope your holiday was lovely.

    3. This is the last week of existence for the hub team here at work. :/ It's kind of weird to realise that many of the faces around me won't be here come Monday. When I first joined the hub, I felt like an outsider, like I didn't fit in. But now I'm one of them, and though i don't have any real close friendships at work, I'll miss gossiping about the latest Starbucks blends with the guys, and talking about vacations and the kidlets with S. People come into your life for a while, and then they're gone. Just another part of life.

    4. Since the hub team is poofing out of existence this week, so is my current position. A new assignment is in the works, though, with a 99% chance of happening, so I should be fine. Just spoke to a Manpower rep who said it's pretty much a matter of getting the paperwork done.

    5. He also said that the new position might allow me to telecommute. O_O

    6. I looked out my library window yesterday, and was startled to see that the tree outside it is nearly bare. I don't recall the leaves changing color or begining to fall. It's like the leaves went FOOMPH! overnight.

    7. I have a Tinkerbell calendar page on my cubicle wall. I <3 it. It's pink and flowery and ADORABLE. You, too, can have a Tinkerbell calendar page!

    8. My hair is PLUM right now. *squees* Color Pulse is fuuun. Am seriously thinking about having rotating hair color, trying a new shade every few weeks.

    9. But then I wonder if I'm too old to be doing this. Hmm. Is 32 too old to have purple hair?

    10. The reason my hair is plum right now? Cubefest, of course. I'm the kind of person who doesn't believe in half-measures. I can't just throw on some clothes and grab my cards and GO. No, I have to reinventory my cards to make sure they're right, make purple jewelry, dye my hair plum, and more! Crazy, I tell you.

    11. And it was all for nothing. -.- Frustration is traveling over two hours by bus/train to the bar where the meetup is happening, only to find out that the organizer left 40 minutes before you arrived. -.- I stayed at the bar only long enough to have a soda (I don't DO bars; never feel comfortable at them) and then took off for D&B, where I had a very yummy late dinner of Jack Daniel's BBQ Chicken, with loaded mashed potatoes and green beans. YUM!

    12. Except I had left my Flexcar card at home, so instead of getting to drive a hybrid, I had to take the train back to Midway and catch a cab. Which used up the money I would have spent on video games at D&B. *sighs* I'm actually more disappointed at forgetting my Flexcar card than I am at the meetup not happening. I got home safe, but am now eating out of my cabinets because I'm broke until payday.

    13. In happier news: OMG. I'M GOING TRICK-OR-TREATING WITH THE KIDLETS THIS YEAR!!! This means I get to wear a costume! But oh... what to be? Suggestions?

[livejournal.com profile] mackillian: Best. Costume. Ever.
    [livejournal.com profile] mackillian): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000HB0T08/
[livejournal.com profile] xnera: but is it playable? that's what i want to know
    [livejournal.com profile] mackillian: LOL

    14. Clicked about the Internet in boredom yesterday, and ended up at Albino Black Sheep, where I watched a bunch of flash files.

    15. I really should do some work now. So I'm going to go do some.
    xnera: Icon captioned "Geek". (geek)
[livejournal.com profile] asqmh demanded updates, so here is an update!

I am amusing myself tonight by browsing the Firebox catalog. The folks behind Firebox are also the people who founded Mind Candy, the company that publishes the Perplex City puzzle cards here on Earth. I've been visiting Firebox a lot lately, to see if they have Wave 4 available for pre-order yet (they don't). And since I'm there, I might as well look around, right?

OMG. I NEED THIS. I already have an ice cream maker, but still--I need this!

Dude. I HAD this game as a kid! I remember playing it on vacations to Hayward.

o_O. Pretty ring, and gods know I would love to have it so I can flaunt it in the faces of my aunt and uncle when they come to visit on Thanksgiving and ask the inevitable "when are you getting MARRIED?!?!" question. On the other hand, feels like a marketing gimmick and yet another dating site. So I think I'll pass.

    Redecorating idea? *snerks*

I object to this being listed under "boys' toys". Grrr.

An Orgasmatron! I've experienced this. Quite a sensation.

    Another thing I NEED.

I love this game. Alas, I never get to play it. *sighs*

This looks interesting. Also brings back fond memories of a cubic jigsaw my dad had. His was a lot easier to solve, though. I may have to get this.

Sighs. Someday I will own this game. Just can't justify it at the moment, since I never get to play board games with anyone and it's kind of steep in price.

Totally forgot about this one! I played it at Mensa a few times. Good game, but not as good as the previous.

This really turns me off. I'm getting sick of Sudoku as it is--it's getting TOO popular--but this? Yeah, just someone trying to cash in on the craze. No thank you!

Conclusion: Firebox is kind of like the ThinkGeek of the UK. Cool stuff, but I still like ThinkGeek better. Sorry, Firebox.

Firefox keeps tossing my cookies. I'm getting signed out of all my frequently-visited websites.

This is rather annoying. I do not want to sign in to LiveJournal every time I sit down at my computer.

Any suggestions? I've checked the cookie settings, and they appear to be fine. Unless there's something I'm missing...

In other news, I deleted two-thirds of my interests on a whim today. Some just had to be kept, however.

I am reminded that I want a new mood theme. Much as I love Jayne and Firefly, the images tend to be a little more violent than I'd like.

Gmail shows me a quote I wasn't previously familiar with:
